East Fannin Elementary School’s Chess Club is gearing up! This year’s club is open to students in grades K -5 who would like to learn how to play chess. The Chess Club will meet every Thursday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Media Center beginning January 16, 2020. Our current sponsors are Mr. Miller and Mr. Baxter.
Parents and/or guardians MUST provide permission to participate AND provide transportation home after each meeting. ALL students who participate in the Chess Club MUST be picked up at 4:30. Meeting dates and cancellations will be communicated through Class DOJO
If your child is interested in participating in the Chess Club, please complete and return the permission form below. Completed forms are due no later than January 15th, 2020. Participation will be limited to 25-30 students based on the order forms are received.
This is an entry level club where students are learning the basics. The goal is to learn about each individual piece and how they move on the board. Once the basic rules are covered, students will begin playing games with each other based on age and skill level. There are quizzes for each lesson level. Badges are awarded for each lesson mastered.
Your child is allowed to bring their own board from home if that is their preference, but we have plenty of boards for the kiddos to use! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me anytime-
