PBIS at Home
At school during the day we use Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) to provide support to student learning. The main idea is to reinforce the students that are making good choices during instruction and the learning day. This program can easily be carried over into the home environment.
Attached below is a brief presentation and attached materials describing PBIS at Home implementation suggestions and supports. There is no requirement to implement PBIS at Home, though for the sake of consistency and to continue to reinforce the school wide expectations we have decided to share an at-home matrix parents as a tool to help with the structure for online instruction and getting work done in a timely manner. The children should be very familiar with the concept of creating a expectations matrix that is consistent with the requirements and timeline of their daily activities.
The ultimate question to ask is at any given moment a snapshot were taken capturing a child's behavior- what would it look like. Does the child know what the behavior is supposed to look like in the given moment? Is he or she doing it in that moment? This is the whole basis of PBIS in school or at home.
What does Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Ready look like in the home environment? For specific times of the day (e.g. morning routine, homework time, meal time, bed time, chore time). Use these resources to reinforce expectations during these times.
